What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device — your computer, phone, or tablet — when you visit. They are widely used to help websites work properly, remember your preferences, and provide basic information to site owners about how their pages are used.

Cookies do not contain executable code, cannot run programmes, and cannot carry viruses. They typically contain a short piece of text — often just an identifier — that the website can read the next time you visit.

You are in control of whether most cookies are set on your device. You can manage your preferences using the controls on this page, or directly through your browser settings.

Cookies we use

Essential Cookies

Always active

These cookies are required for the website to function. Without them, parts of the site would not work at all. They cannot be turned off.

Examples: Storing your cookie consent choice, basic session security, load balancing.

Duration: Session or up to 12 months depending on type.

Analytics Cookies

Optional

These cookies help us understand how visitors use our website — which pages are viewed most, how long people spend on each page, and where visitors come from. All data is aggregated and does not identify individuals.

Examples: Google Analytics — page views, session duration, traffic sources.

Duration: Up to 2 years.

Marketing Cookies

Optional

Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites to display relevant advertising. If you disable these, you may still see adverts, but they will be less relevant to you.

Examples: Facebook Pixel, Google Ads conversion tracking, Bing Ads.

Duration: Up to 90 days.

Preference Cookies

Optional

These cookies remember settings you have chosen — such as your language preference or region — so you don't have to set them again on your next visit.

Examples: Language selection, display preferences.

Duration: Up to 12 months.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies on our site are placed by third-party services we use — such as analytics or advertising platforms. These providers may set their own cookies in accordance with their own privacy policies.

Third-party services that may set cookies when you use our site include:

  • Google Analytics — website usage analytics (analytics category)
  • Google Ads — conversion tracking (marketing category)
  • Facebook Pixel — audience measurement (marketing category)
  • Microsoft Bing Ads — ad performance tracking (marketing category)

Each provider's use of cookies is governed by their own privacy and cookie policies, which we encourage you to review separately.

How long do cookies last?

Cookies fall into two main duration categories:

Session cookies

These exist only while your browser is open. When you close the tab or browser, session cookies are automatically deleted.

Persistent cookies

These remain on your device after the browser is closed, until their expiry date or until you delete them manually. Expiry periods range from 30 days to 2 years depending on purpose.

Your rights and choices

You have the right to withdraw your consent for non-essential cookies at any time by using the preference controls on this page. Essential cookies cannot be disabled as they are required for the website to function.

Turning off analytics or marketing cookies will not prevent you from accessing our website or learning about our programmes. The only effect is that we will have less information about aggregate site usage.

For questions about our use of cookies or to raise a concern, contact us at [email protected]. You may also refer to our Privacy Policy for broader information on how we handle personal data.
